FAQs

DO YOU PREFER NIKON OR CANON?
I've never owned a Nikon, although I have used my friend's, but I am partial to Canon. I just love the image quality and will always be a fan.

WHAT'S SOMETHING I NEED TO KNOW AS A SENIOR LOOKING FOR A PHOTOGRAPHER?
Well, obviously, research. Look at photography pages, blogs, websites, and find someone whose images inspire you. You may pay more for someone who you really love but trust me, it's worth it. I didn't pay the extra money for my senior portraits and I wasn't happy with them. Also, when choosing outfits, all I can say is accessorize, accessorize, accessorize!! Bring bracelets, necklaces, sunglasses, scarves, hats, belts, or anything like that! It's really fun because it adds that fashion element to the shoot!

WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE LENS?
I love my 85mm 1.2!!! The focal length is great for portraits but for anything else, I go to my 50mm 1.2, which I also adore!

WHAT IS IN YOUR CAMERA BAG?
WHAT DO YOU FEEL IS YOUR STRONG POINT IN PHOTOGRAPHY?
I would say my strong point is senior portraits because I've had most experience in that area. I adore portraits, especially of girls since I love the fashion side of it, but wedding photography is also so special to me. I love a carefree bride and groom who really want to spend time with me on the wedding day to capture some awesome portraits!

WHAT EDITING PROGRAM DO YOU USE?
It's ever changing but right now I do all my editing in Lightroom 5.

WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE COLOR?
You're gonna make me pick?! Oh gosh. If I absolutely had to choose between turquoise and lime green, I guess I'd pick turquoise!! Can you tell from looking at my blog? Haha.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE SHOE STORE?
Well, I LOVE SHOES. I'm absolutely obsessed with all things leather so Frye is one of my favorite brands! :) I also love Anthropologie and Free People.

WHAT ADVICE DO YOU GIVE ASPIRING PHOTOGRAPHERS?
Practice!! A LOT! All the time. Go out with your friends and pose them. That's the only way I built a portfolio when I was first starting out. And be sure to read online about shooting manually if you don't already do so. That helped me determine my shooting style. Also, invest in at least one good lens if you're serious about photography. My 50mm 1.4 made my life so much better when I was first starting because I discovered I adore shooting at wide apertures to get a nice, creamy background. And last but not least, don't compare yourself or your work to others. That will just slow you down. Be yourself and create images that YOU love.

WHAT DO YOU DO IN YOUR SPARE TIME BESIDES PHOTOGRAPHY?
I love to hang out with my friends and I love to travel, to adventure, and to go new places. I listen to a lot of music and reality television is something that... yes... entertains me.

WHERE DO YOU USUALLY SHOP?
Most of my wardrobe is from T.J. Maxx but I really love Tobi, Bittersweet, Express, Gap, Free People, and Urban Outfitters.

WHAT'S THE HARDEST THING ABOUT PHOTOGRPAHY?
For me, I have such a hard time not comparing myself to others. There is so much incredible work on the internet and there are some dang talented people in this world. Beautiful photos are always popping up on my Facebook newsfeed and while I'm always encouraging, it's hard to focus on what I'm doing sometimes because I'm overwhlemed by all the creativity of others. So I just have to remember that I take pictures because I love it, not because I want to have the most likes or the most comments. It's not about that. It's about making someone feel beautiful behind my lens.
