FAQ: Film vs. Digital

I don't shoot much film but often when I want to challenge myself at a session, I'll bring out my Canon 1V and shoot at least ten shots of a roll. Sometimes I forget to do so because I get so carried away with my digital but I've shot two rolls now at actual paid sessions and I tried to get each shot on digital and film. It's interesting comparing the two! I'm obviously still learning about pushing, pulling, exposing, scanning, etc. but I thought today I'd do a little film vs. digital post!! I wasn't super thrilled with these scans and I do think medium format is probably more of the look I would be going for but for now, I have my 35mm and I am hoping to get to know it in and out and figure out what I'm doing right and what I'm doing wrong. Digital in on the top and left; film is on the right and bottom.   These were all shot on Fuji400H and scanned by Photovision. What do you prefer?! If you shoot film, what do you shoot with? Feel free to share in the comments!

Definitely like the digital more here!

This one was SO close color-wise! And I even edited the digital before I got the film. I was so proud of myself. :)

LOVE the colors in the film shot!!

  1. The scans look so much better than you were saying, Mere! I really love the raw-ness! Colors are so close as well.
