The Gibsons | Waynesboro, Virginia Family Photographer

I never shoot families. Usually if people ask me, I say no because I've never been excited about them... I think I wasn't excited about family portraits because working with so many people can get chaotic and the only thing it made me think of was family portraits at weddings, which only triggered memories of a bunch of people not listening to me. Haha!! There's good news in this post, I promise. Wait for it.

I met Karis my senior year of high school when she contacted me to do her senior pictures. She was the first person I ever photographed who I didn't already know so that was really exciting!!! On that shoot, we were talking about college and we discovered we were both going to JMU and were thinking about living in the same dorm. It all worked out and we ended up rooming together. But sadly, I wasn't there very long and I left Karis. :( I was so sad to leave her because she was and is a great friend!! I knew I'd miss her! Sadly I don't see her much but her dad contacted me a few weeks ago, telling me they were adopting two little ones and really wanted some family portraits. :) It's opportunities like this that I can't turn down. God totally put it on my heart to do it and for once, I was excited about family portraits!

I showed up at the park, met their big, awesome family, and immediately I was having fun! I really never thought I'd have fun at a family session but their family was SO great and so kind! I'm really considering shooting families now because it was definitely one of my favorite sessions of the year so far!

I don't think I realized the value of family portraits until this session. Capturing the eight of them where they are in this season of life and giving them precious memories during this exciting time when they've just adopted is beyond cool. I'm so lucky I was able to do this and I truly am thrilled to share these photos!! Gibson family, thanks for trusting in me to photograph your family! I hope you love these as much as I do!
