Portraits

My lovely readers!! Hi! As some of you know, I have been shooting portraits for about three or four years now. People are my favorite to photograph and shooting senior pictures ignites something inside me. I love meeting girls close in age to me. I love hearing about their lives, their senior year, their future, the classes they're taking, what they do for fun... I love it! Part of it is probably because being young myself, I can relate to them but also, I take for granted sometimes that I have a tool (my camera) to help people see their beauty. Mirrors and selfies are great, but as a photographer, I understand light and posing and I can take photos of these girls to show them that they're unique, gorgeous, and so special in a way they may not have seen of themselves before! For me, my high school years were the years I doubted myself. They were the years I didn't believe I was worthy and I definitely didn't believe I was gorgeous by any means. So I put on makeup and dressed up for school everyday. Honestly, I still like shopping, putting together cute outfits, and wearing makeup but now I really believe that I was made the way I am for a reason and that the way I dress, act, or look makes no difference in my heart or the impact I make on the world. So now I hang out in my house in whatever's most comfortable, not whatever is cute. Haha.

But really, in all seriousness, the other day I asked myself why I love portraits so much and I found the answer. Finally. Obviously, I love fashion and creating art but when I first got my DSLR and began taking self portraits, I saw a beauty in myself that I hadn't ever seen before. That sounds so prideful and that's not the way I mean it at all. I simply just saw my beauty, rather than my flaws. And that's why I love portraits. I hope to show you that same thing!

Despite clothing and makeup not changing who you are, it certainly is fun, can enhance your beauty, and make you feel good about yourself! On the day of your senior pictures, you get to pick out your favorite outfits (or buy new ones, haha!), wear makeup (or get it done), and feel absolutely beautiful in front of my camera! It's a time where you get to pick a location that might be meaningful to you and we get to hang out for a little bit! And of course, you get photographs taken of you that will hopefully make you feel confident and beautiful but also help you remember your senior year twenty years down the road. :)

I considered spending $700 on my senior pictures but at the time, my parents were going to pay for it because I didn't have the money and I decided against it and went with a studio. I ended up getting a couple photos I liked but I do regret not going with an on-location, natural light photographer and spending the extra money. If you're not 100% sure whether you need senior photos or not, just do it. :) It's so much fun when you choose a photographer you really love and you have photos to document a huge time in your life! It's the only time you have a great excuse to get portraits done!! If you're interested in booking for the spring, summer, or fall, visit my website and inquire on the contact page! Also, if you think you might like to be a senior representative for my business, apply here! You have the chance of earning back your session fee!
