The More Friends You Have

The past two months have been full of new opportunities and excitement. I've spent a lot of time with a couple photographers, I've taken some senior pictures, I've built a website, I've met with friends, and I've had a lot of time to think.

I'm realizing more and more how important it is to make friends and also to be a friend. I know God has made me who I am today and I'm really thankful for that because I'm not the type of person who wants to make enemies. I want to make friends with everyone. In the wedding photography industry, or any industry for that matter, you have to be kind. You have to make friends. You have to learn to shut your mouth. You have to encourage. You have to listen. You have to say thanks.

My family met with my brother a couple nights ago and he was talking about how one of his friends, who majored in Philosophy, got a great job at a bank because he was relatable and kind. Yes, being smart is incredibly important for some fields but being genuine and able to take directions well is just as important a lot of times. In this case, the bank obviously preferred a people-person with a random degree over someone who didn't know how to create conversation but was qualified.

It's just really cool to learn that the more friends you have, the more opportunities you'll probably have. Keep that in mind because it'll probably take you far in life. Haha. Wisdom from an 18-year-old right there.

Guess who I met on Wednesday?! Sara Watkins from Nickel Creek!!!!! Yep, I shook her hand and took a picture of her and my brother. :)
