Reflectors

Hi everyone! Hope today has been a good day for you all! I have been thinking a lot about reflectors and editing lately because those are two things that can really improve a photo and I like to improve my photos. Who doesn't? :) So today I'm going to talk a little about that thing you call a reflector.

I bought a 32" reflector about a year ago and have only used it a few times. I find sometimes that it's easier to work without it since it's tricky to hold it and take a picture at the same time, BUT I think I've made a mistake by not using it. That's not to say I can't take good pictures without it but on cloudy days, there's nothing like a reflector. It does WONDERS for a picture. You know those horrible shadows that appear under a person's eyes when it's cloudy? Yeah, I want to avoid that at all costs! So that's why a reflector is fabulous.

I went out yesterday with my tripod, remote, camera, and reflector to test out the difference between using a reflector and not using a reflector. The results were astounding. I picked a random spot in my backyard (not paying attention to lighting at all, for a reason) and angled the reflector so that light was being popped onto my face. I overexposed a stop just to be sure the photo wasn't too dark and then I took a shot with the light disk and without.

Here's a great visual for those who either don't use reflectors and have been considering buying or for those who think they aren't cool. Haha. Yes, it is personal preference and if I wanted, I could dodge the dark areas in the photo without the reflector but I still love the look with the light disk. What do you think? Isn't that glow nice?

P.S. I don't really like to brush my hair. Or wear makeup. Sorry.

And here are some shots to show you how I was holding the reflector.
