Earlier this week, I asked my personal assistant, Siri (on
my phone), if it was going to snow this weekend. I asked that just out of
humor, wondering what she would say; I was sure it wouldn’t actually snow.
Then, a couple days later, I kept hearing people say there
was a Winter Storm Watch for my area. Normally, I’m the type of person who
would jump up and down in excitement over that but I blew it off this time.
It’s October. Why on earth would it snow?
Well, last night around 8:00, I would guess, it started snowing,
but only a few flakes. Then it started snowing buckets. Haha. I was actually in
the theater at that time, seeing Courageous (which was incredible, by the way),
but when I came out of the theater, it was coming down beautifully! The ground was mostly
white, with only the green grass peaking through. I was thrilled.
I put out my arms, stuck out my tongue, and looked up into
the gorgeous, grey sky. When I was finished spinning around, we got into my dad’s car and rode home to our warm
house.
When I got home, I got caught up on the Vampire Diaries and
America’s Next Top Model and finally snuggled up under my covers and heated
blanket around 1:30 a.m.
I slept quite well, until I was awoken by silence, that is.
Strange how the cutting off of everything would wake me up. That was when I
knew the power had gone out. 9 a.m. and I knew I might as well get up because
snow must’ve been coming down for that to have happened and pictures were to be
taken.
I struggled with whether showering was possible without
electricity and after I decided it was, I got a shower, using candles as a
light source. I walked out the back door with boots on my feet and a hat on my
head thirty minutes later. Tree limbs had fallen over, leaves were blown off,
and wet snow sat on the ground in front of me. As horrible as that sounds, the
beauty of it all washed a sense of peace over me. It was quiet and clean and
the crisp air whipped my face. I took some pictures and came inside.
After my parents woke up, dad drove to Starbucks for some
coffee and food, since we had no power. Since then, I’ve been on a walk, taken
many a picture, and enjoyed this day without t.v., lights, internet, a washing
machine, etc. Although I don’t want to live without power for a whole entire
day too often, once in a while it forces you to take a break, relax, and
realize how lucky you are. Stay warm, everyone!
why is everyone getting snow? GIVE. ME. YOUR. SNOW.
