Christmas In October

Earlier this week, I asked my personal assistant, Siri (on my phone), if it was going to snow this weekend. I asked that just out of humor, wondering what she would say; I was sure it wouldn’t actually snow.

Then, a couple days later, I kept hearing people say there was a Winter Storm Watch for my area. Normally, I’m the type of person who would jump up and down in excitement over that but I blew it off this time. It’s October. Why on earth would it snow?

Well, last night around 8:00, I would guess, it started snowing, but only a few flakes. Then it started snowing buckets. Haha. I was actually in the theater at that time, seeing Courageous (which was incredible, by the way), but when I came out of the theater, it was coming down beautifully! The ground was mostly white, with only the green grass peaking through. I was thrilled.

I put out my arms, stuck out my tongue, and looked up into the gorgeous, grey sky. When I was finished spinning around, we got into my dad’s car and rode home to our warm house.

When I got home, I got caught up on the Vampire Diaries and America’s Next Top Model and finally snuggled up under my covers and heated blanket around 1:30 a.m.

I slept quite well, until I was awoken by silence, that is. Strange how the cutting off of everything would wake me up. That was when I knew the power had gone out. 9 a.m. and I knew I might as well get up because snow must’ve been coming down for that to have happened and pictures were to be taken.

I struggled with whether showering was possible without electricity and after I decided it was, I got a shower, using candles as a light source. I walked out the back door with boots on my feet and a hat on my head thirty minutes later. Tree limbs had fallen over, leaves were blown off, and wet snow sat on the ground in front of me. As horrible as that sounds, the beauty of it all washed a sense of peace over me. It was quiet and clean and the crisp air whipped my face. I took some pictures and came inside.

After my parents woke up, dad drove to Starbucks for some coffee and food, since we had no power. Since then, I’ve been on a walk, taken many a picture, and enjoyed this day without t.v., lights, internet, a washing machine, etc. Although I don’t want to live without power for a whole entire day too often, once in a while it forces you to take a break, relax, and realize how lucky you are. Stay warm, everyone!

The Fall Light Makes Things Glow

Boy, how I love Fridays, especially the ones where I get out of school early. I find myself trying to get stuff done on my phone for my little photography business while I'm in school and it's kind of inconvenient. Haha. One of these days I'm going to get in trouble. Today I was in my first block class and granted, we were only watching Young Frankenstein, but I checked an order status for some shoes (which, I know, isn't related to photography), checked my email, moderated some blog comments, and texted a couple friends about senior pictures. Hahaha. So being home early is definitely nice.

This past week has been entirely too busy for my liking, but it's totally okay. I was so thankful I got to do Annie's senior pictures last weekend and knowing I got to share those and watch the blog views go up got me through the week. :) Thank you to everyone who has helped me reach the highest month of blog views ever. :D

Besides that, like I said, I've been terribly busy, but I actually got to take some pictures! The beautiful fall weather is keeping my spirits up and now that they're calling for snow this weekend, I'm so giddy!! :) Can't believe I just said that....

ANYWHO, on Wednesday, I went outside with my camera in hand after seeing the tree glowing in our front yard. The light was behind the tree, creating backlighting, and it was stunning. I went out, taking pictures of everything from that same angle so I could create backlighting, which I love! So here are those pictures, along with a few other random ones taken this week. :D

Phone Photos

The best part of the iPhone 4S is the 8 megapixel camera. Yeah, you read that right. 8 megapixels. That's crazy good for a phone. But that's not the only thing that makes it great. Apple made it capable of getting down to lower apertures, letting more light in, and just making the picture better overall.

I've been testing out the camera a lot lately and have gotten some really neat pictures that I wouldn't have guessed were taken on a phone if I didn't know better.

Oh, and see that Mini? Yeah, I really want it.
